One in a Million

One of my favorite art techniques is “stippling.” If you are unfamiliar with this technique here is a quick explanation. Using small “dots” placed nearer and farther apart you combine them until you begin to form an image and then add more for shading or solid parts of your drawing. My middle son watched me draw part of the piece and when it was finished he declared, “there must be a million dots!” I can’t tell you exactly how many dots are in this piece but there are a LOT! I am especially fond of drawing organic shapes using stippling because plants, in particular, very infrequently have harsh lines or edges. Stippling allows me to give you the impression of the subject while leaving the composition soft and mailable even to the eye.
